Leftover Tinsel, Last Night’s Gin is a Christmas single I’ve written in honour of my wonderful mum, Lynne Davies, who has been bravely living with motor neurone disease for two and a half years.

The MNDA has supported our family in ways that genuinely changed her life — helping capture her voice and funding the specialist chair she relies on every day. That chair became her favourite thing in the world. At the moment she’s in hospital, but she’ll hopefully be coming home soon, and the thing she’s looking forward to most is getting back into that chair. All of that was possible because of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
This song is a love letter to our northern Christmases — the chaos, the memories, the box sets, the tinsel that should have been thrown out years ago, and the tiny moments that mean everything when time is short. It’s about that strange paradox of living through motor neurone disease: when everything matters, and nothing matters at all, all at the same time.

How did you Punks create the song?
Kenny wrote this song in full: every verse, every lyric, every idea.
The production process then used Suno, an AI music engine, to generate hundreds of musical variations until he found the one that matched the vocal tone and story. More than 180 versions were created, listened to and discarded before landing on the right one — the version that carried the weight and warmth the track needed.
The video was created using Google’s latest Veo 3 model, to reflect the world of the song: northern streets, working men’s club nostalgia, soft neon lights, the texture of memory, the haze of old Christmases. Kenny then edited everything together to create the final music video.
