The Secret Life of Agent Building
People say building an agent is easy. And in some ways it is. But running and managing an agent over time? That’s the hard bit. I think in total we've built over 250 agents now - all shapes and sizes; jobs and tasks.
They're like tamagotchis (for anyone who under 25 - they were little digital keyring pets you fed or they died). I think this is a challenge businesses will face shortly as these people will need space - and it needs to be done by people that know the job. you can't outsource this.
"Agent building means late nights, evenings and weekends - agent builders know what it feels like to be up at 3am on round 47 of an agent that still won’t work, my advice is simple: just stop. Go to bed. Nine times out of ten, when you look with fresh eyes, you’ll realise you should have started from scratch hours ago. But you’ll never see that at 3am when you’re knackered."
But the reality is, to get people there, you’ve got to train them how to use AI. Then help them dissect their workflows. And the hardest part — help them find time. Everyone’s so busy. To save time, you’ve actually got to stop for a moment and dedicate time to creating. That’s a huge barrier. Luckily we are set-up here for success as we've had people doing this locally for some time.
We're now focussed on organising an advanced bootcamp for AI agent builders; again 3 years ago something that didnt even exist. I think the next wave of business complexity is that Agent building requires resourcing, training and time (which means investment).
My pride and joy in all of this was a platformGuide. It’s the agent I’m proudest of. Thousands of people use it. It's my own personal AI trainer - It helps people not just use AI, but also build their own agents with proper structure. I’ve poured endless hours into it, and it’s probably the closest thing i've got to honestly having a genuine team mate. Unfortunately for me; I think its a female and am constantly being reprimanded for gendering AI.
